The birth of "My Single Step"

Let's start with the name of my blog: "My Single Step". I am not a clever person on the spot (off spot, I would just like to say I am pretty clever), so I Googled, "travel quotes". I thought that would be a good place to start, right? Reading all the corny travel quotes I came across Lao Tzu's quote, "A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." This quote resonated with me. Not only is a girl from small town Iowa trying to teach in a foreign country (rather LARGE first step) BUT I also love that song by the Proclaimers:

"I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more, just to be the man who walked a 1,000 miles just to fall down at your door! DA DA DA DAAA DA DA DA DAAAAA..... "

So, all-in-all, I thought this would be the perfect name for my blog; "My Single Step."

"My Single Step" in deciding to teach in Korea came when I was turned down from the PeaceCorps (I guess they didn't want to send me to a remote jungle with crapshot lungs, their loss). Then I met this exciting, eccentric, (adopted) Korean boy and fell in love with him. We got to that point in our relationship where we decide, "what's next?" Knowing, that I was an education major (him being biology), it wasn't going to be easy to find both of us a job.

In comes Korea. On a lark we, again, Googled, "Teaching English in Korea." We contacted the recruiters at Teach ESL Korea for more information and the rest has been a whirl-wind!

More on the beginning process later. As of right now, I just wanted everyone to know that I will be keeping a blog to keep in touch with friends all over the world and share my experience (hopefully without boring you to death).
